A Top Tie Beam is a horizontal profile that connects the top ends of upright frames in a pallet racking system. While it does not support pallet loads, it plays a structural role by enhancing the rigidity and stability of the overall rack installation.

Top Tie Beams help prevent upright frames from swaying or leaning, particularly in the down-aisle direction. This added stability is important for tall or deep racking systems and is also a consideration in seismic environments*.

Top Tie Beams are installed across alternate frames in a run of bays. For example, a row of 5 bays (consisting of 6 frames: 2 frames from the Main Bay and 1 from each Add-on Bay) will require 3 Top Tie Beams.
Top Tie Beams are fixed horizontally at the very top of upright frames, bracing two frames from adjacent bays together. Unlike load beams, they do not carry loads but serve a critical role in ensuring structural rigidity.
Top Tie Beams are mandatory when rack height is 4,500 mm or greater, regardless of depth. They must be installed between adjacent bays with a spacing of 2,000 mm to 3,500 mm, adjustable to suit layout preferences. If the first bay run is supported against a wall, Top Tie Beams are still required for all subsequent bay runs.
The installation of a single guard typically requires two people and takes approximately 10-15 minutes. With experience, the installation time can be reduced further.
